We start our hike from the upper Tujan village, located on the NE edge of Tirana, 15 km from the center. This area is known for 'Tujani Fortress' which dates back to the Iron Age more recently served as a strategic military point, today not visible. Another attraction here is 'Shkallet e Tujanit' a deep canyon along the Tirana River, which we shall visit another time. Centuries-old olive trees are also found in the area. Our trail takes us climbing through a forest and eventually to a small canyon till we reach 'Fushe-Dajt', Dajti Field, where we will have a short rest & coffee and eventually continue our loop downhill, passing the adventure park and back on a section of the classic Dajti trail, then continuing on heading back to Tujan Village. We complete a loop of about 11 km and cover an accumulative elevation of 600 m. We see great views of the nearing mountains, Tirana, and even the coast from a good part of this trail.
We recommend a picnic lunch in the mountain. Please bring a sandwich with you. We can stop for a coffee at 'Fushe Dajt' halfway through our loop, on our way back at one of the local cafes.
Technical Info: We can reach an accumulative elevation of 600 m, and a distance of 11 km, for a duration of 4- 4.5 hours which makes this a moderate "+" trail. The terrain is rocky most of the way climbing uphill with breaks of soft patches and fields.
What to Bring: Hiking shoes, wind jacket, light layers considering the temperatures will reach 15 degrees, poles if you have them. Sunscreen and Hats become a new necessity in the spring. Please always have with you snacks: dried fruits, nuts, fresh fruit. Must have 1.5 liters of water with you now that the temperatures start to rise.
