Erzen Canyon – Group Hike

This tour takes us back to Pellumbas village, known for its Black Cave, as one of the biggest caves found in Albania. It lies on Peshkashesh Mountain which rises on the south side of the Erzeni River canyon. The cave, which has only one entry, is 360 meters long, 10-15 meters wide, 15-45 meters high. The interior offers a unique combination of thousand years old stalactites and stalagmites scattered through the whole length of it.

On this trip we walk towards the cave, visit it briefly, but our aim is to reach the river canyon below.

The trail to the cave is about 3km one way, presenting a challenging and rocky terrain along the edge of the mountain with elevation gains of about 250m. From the Cave towards the canyon we descent approximately the same elevation if not more. The steep stretch is challenging for balance and risk for sliding. Though there is a trail, the very soft terrain does not support it so this becomes quite tiresome for the 30-40 minutes time we would complete this intense descent.

NOTE:
Depending on the group's comfort level we have another alternative to reach the canyon. Swimming in the cold river waters will be a great reward on a hot day.

What to Bring: Hiking shoes, water shoes, bathing suit, sunscreen, hat, poles if you have them. Please also have with you some snacks: dried fruits, nuts, fresh fruit. Some natural sugar in your snacks will help your energy levels. Must have 1.5 liters of water with you!  Take a sandwich with you for a picnic by the river but it's possible to have a traditional lunch at the end of our day in the village.  (optional and at your own cost).
