Alicia Barrena

Psychoanalyst

I am a Lacanian Psychoanalyst offering sessions to English and Spanish speakers who are looking for support through personal challenges. As an expat myself, I am keenly aware of the emotional turbulence that moving across countries can trigger. As in other modalities, psychoanalysis offers a space for you to ease your pain. However, what makes psychoanalysis different is that it opens the possibility to change the conditions of that suffering.

I have a Ph.D. in Philosophy with an emphasis in psychoanalytic theory. The title of my dissertation is “What is Rape?” and it is an investigation into the origins of sexual trauma. I am currently undergoing psychoanalytic formation through The Center for Lacanian Analysis out of Auckland, NZ following two years of psychoanalytic training at the National Psychological Association of Psychoanalysis in New York City. I have been in clinical practice for two years, and I am currently based in Tirana, Albania.
