Mali me Gropa is one of the rare karst phenomena in Albania and one of the rarest in Europe, in terms of size and extent. This mountain got its name from its upper surface, which is filled with karstic pits, which were formed by the digestion of limestone in the ice age. This mountain marks the start of several streams that cross the district of Tirana. Selita spring is supplied with water from this mountain. Its highest point reaches 1847m known as the peak of Mcek (aka Micek).
We will start our hike past the village of ShenMeri (St. Meri) at about 900m from sea level and enjoy a gradual uphill to the first stop point at an old shepherd's hut achieving the first 700 m of elevation. Here part of the group can stop and rest and whoever wants to reach the peak will continue for another 300 m of additional elevation. Total elevation to the peak is 900m. The total length is 12km. We have mixed terrain on this hike partially soft and partial rocky. Our hike will be approximately 2.5 - 3hrs uphill and 2 hours downhill.
Please bring a small sandwich for picnic. At the end of our hike we can lunch at a local restaurant in ShenMeri (optional & at your own expense)
